ABOUT MATT
Matt Cook did not set out to become a laundry guy. In 2019, he was just someone who found himself standing in the detergent aisle thinking the same thing most people never bother to say out loud: why does every single one of these smell the same?
That question stuck with him. He knew the fragrance world had spent decades crafting scents that could stop someone in their tracks. Warm sandalwood, crisp sea salt, amber and cashmere. But none of that thinking had made it into laundry. Detergent was treated like a utility. Something you bought, used, and never thought about again.
Matt thought that was a missed opportunity. So he built Mozi Wash, a concentrated, plant-based laundry detergent where the scent is treated with the same care as a cologne. Not artificial, not overwhelming. Just the kind of clean that lingers in a way that actually feels good.
Since then, Mozi Wash has grown into a brand that more than 100,000 people reach for on laundry day. Matt writes about the things that matter to Mozi customers: how to care for delicate fabrics, what goes into a cleaner formula, how scent and memory are more connected than most people realize, and why the everyday stuff in your home, including your detergent, is worth caring about.
He lives in Santa Monica, California, and yes, his laundry always smells great.
