Hi again, Matt here! One of the questions I get asked most frequently is how I developed the scents for Mozi Wash. Fragrance isn’t just a background feature—it’s central to the Mozi Wash experience. Today, I’m excited to share exactly how we created scents that elevate laundry into something special.
Scent as Storytelling
When I began developing Mozi Wash, I knew immediately that scent would be a critical component. My own life had taught me how powerful fragrances can be. They evoke memories, set moods, and even transport us to specific moments or places. Inspired by personal favorites—luxurious scents from brands like Jo Malone, YSL, Ralph Lauren, Dior, and the iconic Capri Blue candle—I aimed to create fragrances for Mozi Wash that could inspire similar emotional connections.
The Art and Science of Fragrance
Creating memorable fragrances is a careful blend of art and science. I spent months working closely with skilled perfumers, diving deep into the science of scent formulation. I learned about top notes, heart notes, and base notes—how each scent evolves over time to create a complex, memorable experience.
We experimented extensively, balancing notes to craft distinctive fragrances. Each scent underwent rigorous testing in real-world scenarios, ensuring it smelled incredible not just in the bottle, but also after washing and drying clothes.

We were sustainability guided during every aspect of our scent creation. We prioritized plant-based ingredients, responsibly sourced essential oils, and avoided synthetic fragrances. We aimed to create something genuinely clean and safe, without compromising the richness and depth that people expect from premium fragrances.

The result was a range of carefully crafted scents, each telling its own story—fresh pineevoking crisp mornings outdoors in the woods, calming lavender reminiscent of leisurely weekends on the coast, and warm, comforting blends perfect for cozy nights. Our fragrances don't just make laundry smell good; they make the entire laundry experience meaningful and memorable.
