One of the biggest inspirations behind Mozi Wash was fine fragrance. I wanted our detergents to feel closer to something you would happily wear as a personal scent instead of something that simply masked odors.
That process involved testing hundreds of fragrance blends and learning how specific fragrance notes in detergent interact with different fabrics and environments.
The six signature scents: what they smell like and why I made them

This is the part I am most proud of. Each scent has a story, a mood, and a specific set of fragrance notes that I chose deliberately.
Alpine Woods
Alpine Woods is the one that started it all for me, in spirit at least. I wanted a scent that transported you to a forest. Not fake pine, not air freshener pine — real, earthy, grounding forest air. The sandalwood base gives it warmth and depth, patchouli adds complexity, and the fresh pine sits on top and keeps it feeling clean and cool.
What does sandalwood smell like? It is soft, creamy, and woody with a faint sweetness. It is the kind of note that does not announce itself, it just lingers in the most pleasant way. Combined with pine and patchouli, it creates a laundry detergent scent that people describe as deep, masculine, and seriously addictive.
Central Coast
A clean and airy fragrance in a way that reminds me of California's coastline.
The sandalwood here plays a different role compared to Alpine Woods. Where Alpine is dark and moody, Central Coast is sun-warmed and breezy. The citrus lifts it, the lavender softens it, and the sandalwood gives it that lasting base note that makes it feel like a premium fragrance.
If you have ever asked yourself what does sandalwood smell like in a more wearable, everyday context, this is a good example. It is approachable and familiar without being boring. Central Coast is inspired by Dior Sauvage, one of the most universally loved laundry detergent scents in the cologne world.

Signature Cozy
This is our bestseller, and once you smell it, you understand why.
In Signature Cozy, amber anchors everything while the floral notes keep it from feeling too heavy, and the honey adds a soft sweetness that makes it genuinely indulgent. It was inspired by what a five-star hotel should smell like, bedsheets that feel expensive, a room that just feels warm and welcoming.
Fragrance notes in detergent rarely hit this level of complexity, and that is exactly what makes Signature Cozy stand apart from anything else on the shelf. What does amber smell like? Warm, rich, slightly sweet, and deeply comforting. It is one of those base notes in fragrance that wraps around you.
Desert Poppy
Desert Poppy was my attempt to capture something a little more adventurous. It is floral but not delicate, there is a wildness to it that feels like blooming desert landscapes in spring. Poppy gives it a bright, fresh lift. Ambrette, a plant-based musk, adds depth without going heavy. Tonka bean brings in a subtle sweetness that is almost gourmand without crossing the line.
It is inspired by Jo Malone's Scarlet Poppy, and it hits that perfect balance of light and layered. People who try Desert Poppy often say they did not expect to love it as much as they do. That is the reaction I was going for.

Sugar Dew
I drew inspiration for this one from my travels through Central America. If you have ever walked past a tropical fruit stand somewhere warm and lush, you know the feeling. Sugar Dew is vibrant and uplifting, the kind of laundry detergent scent that makes you want to sit outside on a sunny day.
Tropical fruit, citrus zing, and a hibiscus floral note that keeps it from feeling too sweet. It is inspired by the iconic Volcano candle, which has a devoted following for good reason.
Vanilla Moon
Vanilla Moon is the one for people who love a rich, sultry evening scent. The vanilla is warm and full without being cloying. The coffee bean adds a roasted depth that keeps it interesting, and the white floral note gives it something ethereal.
This one was inspired by YSL Black Opium, which tells you everything. It is bold and beautiful, and it lingers on your clothes in the best possible way.

The philosophy behind fragrance notes in detergent

One of the biggest things I had to figure out early on was that fragrance behaves differently on fabric than it does on skin. A scent that works perfectly as a cologne might completely fall apart once it goes through a wash cycle and a dryer. Some notes dissipate; others become too strong. The balance changes.
So the fragrance notes in detergent need to be developed with that in mind. I worked with our fragrance partners to make sure every blend was engineered to survive the wash and cling to fabric at the right intensity. Not overpowering, not forgettable. Just that perfect moment where you pull a shirt from the closet and go, oh, that smells good.
The laundry detergent scents we use are all intentionally balanced as layered fragrances, not just a single note thrown into a bottle. Top notes, heart notes, base notes, all working together the same way a perfumer would think about them.
Mozi Wash since launch: milestones worth sharing

When I first posted a TikTok of myself doing laundry at a beach laundromat in Southern California, I had no idea it was going to go anywhere. It did. That video caught the attention of Gen Z in a way I had not anticipated, and it became the spark that turned a side project into a real business.
Since then, Mozi Wash has been featured in Rolling Stone and has caught the attention of teams around cultural moments and media brands. One of the moments that stuck with me was when Drew Barrymore herself described our Cozy Cashmere in US Weekly as "a breath of fresh air," calling it earth-friendly and ultra-concentrated in the same breath. That is exactly what we built it to be.
We crossed 100,000 customers. We expanded our scent lineup. We launched candles and linen spray to bring those same laundry detergent scents into other moments of your day.
The brand has grown because people genuinely connect with the idea that laundry does not have to be a chore. When the detergent smells like something you chose, something that feels like you, the whole experience shifts. That has always been the mission.
